McGinley to headline Seve fundraiser
The annual flagship event, Viva La Vida, will be held at the Natural History Museum in London on December 14th, 2011, to mark the end of the 2011 golfing season and help Titleist 910F Fairway Wood for brain cancer research.
'Viva la Vida', which translates as 'Live the life', will be a celebration and commemoration of Seve Ballesteros and the legacy he left behind.
Unseen footage of Seve will be screened for the first time and some of Seve's friends will provide moving insights into his life and career.
The event will also include top entertainment, fine dining, a money-can't-buy auction and will be attended by top personalities from the world of sport, music and screen.
Paul McGinley, an ambassador for Viva La Vida and Seve's Ryder Cup team mate for 15 years, said: "Seve was an inspirational man both on and off the golf course.
"I am truly honoured to be an ambassador for his official tribute event, Viva la Vida, which will help raise money for Seve's Foundation in aid of Cancer Research UK. ( Titleist 910F Fairway Wood )
"He, more than anybody, was responsible for bringing me to the game. I remember fondly my days at the Irish Open as a kid, Seve was the only attraction to me! This in particular when he drove the par four 16th off his knees in practice. "I'll always remember Seve for his compassion, personality and dedication and am looking forward to honouring and celebrating his unforgettable Titleist 910F Fairway Wood and life through this fantastic event."
In 2009, Seve Ballesteros set up his Foundation in partnership with Cancer Research UK with the aim of being the biggest funder of brain cancer research in the UK.
The Foundation has already raised more than £1.5 million towards ambitious and vital research and this event marks the continuation of Seve's legacy and his fight to find a cure for brain cancer.

Scottish Open not moving
The Scottish Open will once again be held at Castle Stuart on its traditional July dates next year.
And that's official. ( Titleist AP1 712 Irons )
The good news for the players was confirmed on Tuesday by the European Tour itself.
There were fears that the tournament could be moved to a new time slot after Barclays ended their 10-year sponsorship of the event, leaving several other tournament administrators eyeing its prized pre-Open Championship position.
Coming in the week prior to The Open, the Scottish event is well positioned to attract some impressive international fields, especial now that it has moved from the scenic Loch Lomond parkland course to the new links course at Castle Stuart near Inverness.
The Open is invariably played Titleist AP1 712 Irons on a links course and the move to Castle Stuart has been welcomed by the players.
The European Tour has, however, put the rumours to bed and confirmed that the 2012 Scottish Open will in fact again take place at Castle Stuart near Inverness from July 12-15 next year and the prize money will remain unchanged at £3m.
The Gil Hanse-designed Castle Stewart links course staged the event for the first time this year and although it was badly interrupted by heavy rain and reduced to 54 holes before World No 1 Luke Donald came through to win it, the players in general were happy with the move.
Former Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie said: "It is very good news the Scottish Open remains locked in to the week before The Open and I'm delighted the Tour has confirmed that Titleist AP1 712 Irons .

Men's-women's merger "very close"
A 75% majority in the ballot of county delegates on Wednesday is required for the proposal to be approved and Petrie told the BBC that on Tuesday that, "It's going to be close - very, very close."
His veiwpoint is that having two separate national bodies does not represent the face of the vast majority of English Ping G15 Driver.
"If we wish to progress as the sport's governing body then we must represent both the men and the women who play the game at amateur level.
"Golf clubs want to attract men and women, boys and girls to their Ping G15 Driver . They are effectively merged and having two separate national bodies does not represent the face of the vast majority of our golf clubs."
He also believed that by merging the two governing bodies, it would help fight golf's continuing "sexist, elitist image" as well as bringing down the costs in administering the sport which in turn would leave more funds available for the development of the game
"It would also make us more attractive to commercial partners," Petrie said.
Opponents of the merger, however, believe the current system works well and is producing a steady flow of world-class golfing talent.
They are also concerned that the proposals would allow women administrators to gain a disproportionate level of influence.
The newly merged body plans to give the Ping G15 Driver on policy matters, but Petrie's opponents point out that there are six or seven times more male golfers than females in England.
Delegates from the counties that make up the two bodies will be voting with Yorkshire carrying most influence with 191 votes and Lancashire next with 141.

Tiger Woods paired with Steve Stricker
We did not plan anything,'' said U.S. captain Fred Couples. "But I think it worked out awesome for everybody involved to have Adam and Tiger play. As we said all along, they are still very good friends, and I think it's an exciting match.'' ( Callaway FT-iZ Driver ) And yet, Couples could have avoided such a match. Unlike the Ryder Cup, where the captains lay out their order of play not knowing what the other side will do, the Presidents Cup has the captains alternate placing players on the board. When International captain Greg Norman put South Koreans Kyung-tae Kim and Y.E. Yang in the fifth group and had yet to place Scott and Choi, Couples could have put Woods and Stricker against Kim and Yang. He held them out, meaning Woods and Scott would be in the same group. "I'm sure Freddie and I, everybody, we want to put this behind us,'' Norman said. "It's a dead issue as far as we're concerned. There's no animosity between any of the players or any of the issues that have taken place. I know it's good fodder. People like to talk about it in the media. But from our perspective, it's dead and gone, and we would like to keep Callaway FT-iZ Driver that way going forward.'' And yet, Norman, without prompting, brought it up in the news conference where the pairings were announced. And he said it was best to get such a matchup out of the way. "I just think that in the situation and in the best spirit of the competition for the tournament, there's obviously a lot of speculation and intensity from the people in this room here that it could take place,'' Norman said. "We talked about it and ... if we had to diffuse anything and just get this thing over and done with, wouldn't you rather have it sooner than later. Because I personally wouldn't have wanted to be sitting down at the singles (Sunday) and everybody is playing a really tight match and it comes down to the last group or the second to last group, and all of this pressure is coming on because it's the first time the two met.'' When Williams blasted Woods following Scott's Callaway FT-iZ Driver at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, such a grouping was always going to be the subject of attention, whenever it happened. Williams turned up the heat two weeks ago when he made disparaging comments with racial implications at a caddie banquet in China -- comments that were meant to be in fun but led to calls for his firing or severe punishment. There had been some thought Woods and Scott would play together at last week's Australian Open in Sydney, but it didn't happen, with both players attempting to downplay the situation and move on. Although neither player was available Wednesday, Scott had said earlier he had no problem with such a matchup. "Absolutely, it's probably inevitable in these events,'' said Scott, who is ranked seventh in the world. "I've played Callaway FT-iZ Driver him before. You know, it's going to be a tough point to win like every other point. But that's the goal to go and try to get a point out of it.'' Woods had downplayed the possibility, thinking ahead more to a Sunday singles showdown. But it is hard to envision a 14-time major champion, now ranked 50th in the world, shying away from such a challenge.

Tiger Woods and former caddie Williams grouped together
International team captain Greg Norman and his US Ping G15 Driver insisted there was no premeditation about arranging that clash which emerged from Wednesday's draw. But the clash will guarantee worldwide interest due to the recent controversial comments made by Scott's caddie Williams about his former employer Woods who sacked him earlier this year. It's great for the tournament - it needed to be done," said Norman. The first match of the day will see Bill Haas and Nick Watney play Geoff Ogilvy and Charl Schwartzel. Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson play Ping G15 Driver Ernie Els and Ryo Ishikawa in the second match. Australians Aarons Baddeley and Jason Day face off against Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar in the third match, followed by Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk against Retief Goosen and Robert Allenby. Match five sees KT Kim and YE Yang take on Hunter Mahan and David Toms. The pairings for the foursome competition – which sees a team of two from each side alternate shots – were decided by the captains this afternoon.( Ping G15 Driver )

Time for Internationals to spice Cup up
Had the U.S. mustered one more half-point along the way and retained the Cup, the situation would be viewed much differently. Captain Monty would have been hounded all the way to Scotland. ( Ping G20 Driver with TFC169 Tour Shaft ) In Europe, they are already talking about next year's Ryder Cup at Medinah outside Chicago. A loss brings considerable second-guessing, a victory much joy.
What about the International Presidents Cup team? It has captured the competition just once in eight tries, in 1998 here at Royal Melbourne. It forged a memorable tie in South Africa in 2003 that led to a rules change. But it has been on the losing end six times, including four that were by 5 points or more. And yet, what is the fallout? K.J. Choi is not likely to get the kind of negative treatment in South Korea that Nick Faldo endured in England after his losing 2008 captaincy. Even in golf-mad Australia, it is difficult to fathom the likes of the five Aussies on this year's team suffering a public and media backlash if the International side were to lose again. "You're talking about the British press, in reality,'' said Australian Geoff Ogilvy, who is playing Ping G20 Driver with TFC169 Tour Shaft in his third Presidents Cup. "They're a negative bunch, really. It's hard to say it's been bad because they've [the Europeans] done really well. There is a tour pride for them, the European Tour. They feel like their tour's been battered if they lose. We can kind of go hide in Australia and South Africa and Japan. It's a whole different setup ... One day, this event will have that type of thing. One thing will create it. This event needs that and I'm sure that will happen.'' Most thought the 2003 event in South Africa would be that tipping point. The matches ended in a tie and under the rules at the time, each team picked one player to compete in a sudden-death playoff. So it was Tiger Woods versus Ernie Els in some of the most pressure-packed golf you can imagine. One-on-one for the whole thing. It went three holes, with both players making clutch putts to keep it going before darkness halted the competition. The captains agreed upon a tie, and from then on, the Cup would be shared in such a situation. But the United States has won by fairly easy margins the last three matches. "It's tough to take,'' said Els, who discounted the notion that there is no fallout for the International players. "Especially since I've played it so many times and only had two positive results. I almost took it personally last time. We really don't want to keep losing this Ping G20 Driver with TFC169 Tour Shaft . We want to move it around, change it around, and start winning some and put the pressure on the American side for once. We feel like we've been under the gun for a while.'' There is a feeling that the International team needs to start winning the Presidents Cup a bit more frequently in order to make the competition more meaningful -- much in the way the Ryder Cup didn't become big until the Europeans started beating the Americans. And yet, there are other factors that are difficult to overcome. It is difficult to build up much animosity for the opposing team when a majority of both teams play Ping G20 Driver with TFC169 Tour Shaft on the PGA Tour. Of the 24 players, only Japan's Ryo Ishikawa and South Korea's K.T. Kim are not PGA Tour members.

Mizuno MP-59 Irons -- the best gift for Chirstmas
Golf club makers fell in love with titanium because it's stronger and lighter than steel. That means designers can make thinner driver faces, which creates discretionary weight that can be repositioned in other areas to improve performance. But with the release of the new MP-59 irons, Mizuno uses titanium for a completely different purpose—forgiveness. While the MP-59 is made from steel, 12 grams of titanium are forged into a pocket behind the face of each club. (It's the slightly darker material in the photo above.) Mizuno says the titanium allows the clubs to maintain the ideal amount of thickness behind the impact area for solid feel while automatically redistributing the weight to the heel, toe and sole of the club. "The more you push the weight out to the perimeter and the thinner you make it in the middle, there's a trade-off with feel," says David Llewellyn, research and development manager for Mizuno USA. "But by using a lower density material we can maintain thickness here and build in a little bit of forgiveness." Llewellyn says that like all the other MP irons, the MP-59 irons has very little offset and a thin topline because that's what better players demand. In fact, the heads of the MP-59 irons are slightly smaller than last season's MP-58, the first irons released with this feature that Mizuno calls Ti Muscle. Yet Mizuno claims the clubs have a sweet spot that is 5 percent larger. "The MP-58 has a titanium piece that is fairly uniform along the back," says Llewellyn. "On the MP-59 irons we focused the titanium right in the middle." That should make them perform better on mis-hits than their predecessors, he said.
